Education in Victoria
Victoria’s educational system includes a public school district, several
private and parochial schools, a two-year community college and a four-
year university.
Victoria Independent School District
The Victoria Independent School District boasts over 15,000 students,
18 elementary schools and 11 secondary schools. VISD prides itself on a
vast spectrum of academic programs. These include advanced academics,
gifted and talented classes, bilingual, AP and pre-AP classes, an early
college program, dual credit courses, AVID, dyslexia, and a whole host of
educational opportunities through the special education department.
Students have the opportunity to participate in academic as well as
extracurricular sports. Victoria students can showcase their athletic skills
in basketball, football, baseball, golf, volleyball, power lifting, wrestling,
cheerleading, soccer, golf, tennis, swimming, track & field, kickball, and
powerlifting. Each elementary or secondary campus has a variety of clubs
or/and organizations to join.
In Victoria Independent School District, fine arts thrive. Students are
able to participate in theatere, band, orchestra, choir, dance, mariachi,
guitar, ballet folklorico and art.
VISD is also home to an aquatic center and a fine arts center.
The Aquatic Center, located at 1006 Sam Houston, is a competition
facility that regularly hosts championship meets for UIL and TAAF. The
center features state-of-the-art equipment.
The Aquatic Center is open to the public on a limited basis and may
be rented for special events. Admission may be paid on a per visit basis
and memberships are available. Twelve lanes are specifically reserved for
lap swimmers. The Competition Pool is 7ft-7.5ft deep, the Middle Pool is
7.5ft-8ft deep, and the diving well is 8ft-13ft deep.
A shallow pool is available to the public, as well. The shallow pool
ranges from three to four feet in depth. The Aquatic Center also features
two Olympic size 1 meter springboards located in the 13 ft. diving well.

The VISD Fine Arts Center (VFAC) is a state-of-the-art production
facility featuring a traditional 60-foot wide proscenium stage. The Center
accommodates seating for up to 1,481 and the design of a low tier
mezzanine area ensures there is a not a bad seat in the house.
With 29 line sets over the stage for rigging and two front of house
catwalks, the VFAC is ideally suited to handle any type of production.
The stage also has a mobile acoustical sound shell which serves to
enhance the outstanding acoustical characteristics of the space, truly
showcasing such events as the Victoria Bach Festival and the Victoria
Symphony Orchestra performances.
