Spectator Sports

Sports are a big deal in South Texas... and Victoria is at the heart of the South Texas Sports Scene. The City of Victoria is
home to the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars athletic teams and the Victoria Generals Amateur Baseball Team. The
UHV Jaguars sports teams include men’s baseball, golf and soccer; and women’s softball, golf and soccer.

The UHV Athletic Department provides student athletes the opportunity to be part of a competitive intercollegiate
athletic program through its membership in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and conference

affiliation in the Red River Athletic Conference [RRAC]. The department sponsors six sports,
including baseball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, and softball. UHV
seeks student athletes who are committed to being successful not only on the field but in the
classroom. It is the intent of the department, its administrators and coaches to provide a
competitive and disciplined environment that will support student success. In conjunction
with the NAIA, the department is committed to the Champions of Character Program, which
promotes five core values in athletics: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and
Servant Leadership.

In 2008, the Victoria Generals Baseball Team was founded. The League caters specifically
to college players looking for experience during the summer months to prepare them for a
possible career in the major leagues.

The Victoria Generals play home games at Riverside Stadium in Riverside Park.
The team plays 24 home games as part of a 48-game regular season schedule
beginning in June and running through early August. Following the season, the
league’s top four teams participate in a playoff to determine the TCL champion.

The Generals have seen several of their former players selected in the Major
League Baseball draft over the course of the last several years. During that time
span, 20 former Generals have been selected and 11 still currently play affiliated
minor league baseball. It is only a matter of time before the first former General
makes his major league debut.
